You should only consider this e-LEARNING course if you are serious about becoming a professional dog groomer. This is an alternative to attending a residence school and being away from home. We have designed this program to teach everything you need to know to groom effectively and professionally and the program includes instruction on opening your own business. We help students from all over the world open grooming shops, so we are very capable in helping you open yours!

This is a 90% hands on course. You hand in homework and final grooming exam (on video) as well as written studies and quizzes. OnDemand (recorded) classes allow you to work with the tutor watching demonstrations and teaching you how to groom the basic pet styles and the slight changes needed to groom all different breeds of dogs. You will make up a grooming manual of easy step-by-step speed-grooming techniques to help you along even after you’ve finished your course. You will receive our unique speed groom charts.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of dog breeds and willingness to work hard and study to become a professional dog groomer.

Purpose: This Diploma builds on the fundamentals of pet grooming. Bathing, drying, handling dogs, health and safety, equipment and its use. Students will learn clipping, scissoring, and handstripping techniques including speed-grooming techniques to be able to groom all breeds in pet trims. This Diploma will fully prepare you to work in a commercial salon or as a self- employed fully trained groomer.

What students can expect to learn in this program:

Breed recognition, Kennel Clubs
Handling and restraint of dogs
Health and safety in the salon
Bathing, drying and dematting techniques
Health checks and recognition of basic skin and/or parasitic problems
Different types of equipment, their use and maintenance
Different breeds and the standard pet styles for each breed, adapting trims to suit owners’ requirements
Speed-grooming and stying for pet trims
How to use clippers and choose the correct blades
How to clip, scissor and handstrip different breeds into different styles.
Creating, managing and running a pet grooming business, how to deal with customers, problems, staffing, insurance, pricing, advertising and marketing, etc.
Intensive course on first-aid, CPR and health problems in pets, how to recognize these and how to carry out First-Aid and CPR.

Students will be required to participate fully with homework – questions, special studies, and you will be required to send video/photographic evidence to show hands-on practice which the tutor will examine and provide feedback on. Students who complete all parts of the course and meet the required pass marks will obtain Certification.

Certificate in Fundamentals of Dog Grooming
Certificate in Grooming and Styling Techniques for Professional Pet Dog Groomers
Certificate in Creating and Managing a Pet Grooming Business
Certificate in Pet First Aid and CPR

Once students have completed all of the above course they will be awarded the Professional Pet Groomers Diploma.

Internet access.
Digital camcorder to video homework.
Access to wide variety of friends and families dogs for practicing grooming skills.
If possible, a placement at a grooming salon to watch/voluntary work.
Grooming kit to practice on dogs or access to this equipment… maybe in a salon!

NOTE: If you intend to take the full grooming Diploma this is a discounted price. If you are enrolling and paying for the individual certifcates, your cost will be slightly more expensive. You have 15 months to complete the full diploma.
