This comprehensive certification program in equine massage is offered in a paper
based distance learning course.
Students will begin this program in the Equine Anatomy and Physiology Course with an overview of equine anatomy and physiology
which will aid in their understanding of the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and massage
therapy in animals.
Students will then move onto the Equine Massage Course and will learn all the relevant
Swedish massage therapy strokes; history and theory of massage; definition and purpose of massage for equines; creating a
positive working environment for equine massage; physiological effects of massage for equines; psychological effects of massage
for equines; contraindications to massage for equines; assessment and treatment protocols for equines; an introduction to
hydrotherapy for equines; equine biomechanics and kinesiology. The course will cover the advanced massage techniques of lymph
drainage massage, and sports massage. Throughout the course we observe and respond to equine behaviour. There is also discussion
and practice of positive equine handling skills. Additionally the course covers business and client management, professionalism
and ethics.
The course involves 17 student directed learning units, the submission of video demonstrations, 40
full body equine massage practice sessions, and finally the completion of written and practical certification exams. If you
