ABOUT COURSES
All courses are individual 1:1 training we have a roll on roll off policy so you
can start your course when you want. Dates change daily as students book please contact us for details of next available dates. Courses run all year round and we are flexible with attendance students may attend in 1 week blocks or 1/2/3/4 days per
week as long as dates are prebooked.

All our training is geared towards the City & Guilds Standards, we encourage students to complete the
Level 2 & Level 3 Intro alongside basic training, this proves to members of the public & prospective employers you
have reached the industry standards of grooming. After approx 12 months of grooming students may then return having gained
speed & experience to complete the Level 3 Diploma to become a fully qualified groomer.

Foundation Dog bathing, grooming & preparation skills course. This is a one week course which teaches the basics of grooming it is ideal for kennel owners/petsitters
or those offering a mobile dog wash service who want to offer a tidy up grooming service. You will cover professional techniques
for bathing, drying, dematting and grooming out dogs as well as ear and nail care and introduction into clipping and trimming
skills.
What will i learn: Breed recognition, kennel club groups, coat types,anatomy and
grooming terminology. Handling and restraint methods for grooming. Correct use of equiptment and choice of tools
for different coat types. Professional bathing, drying and dematting skills for all coat types. Ear, nail and gland
care. Deshedding techniques for smooth and double coats. Undercoat removal, trimming, thinning of double coated
non clipped breeds eg retrievers, collies etc. Introduction into clipping and looking at different style and

After completing the intro students should gain at least 12 months experience and then can enrol
on the Level 3 part 2 Diploma for Styling and Finishing- students who have completed the Level 3 Intro will only have to sit
the External practical exam and written exams as they will have completed some of the units already in the intro part 1 of

Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistants qualification. You will require at least
4 weeks full time grooming experience/training YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BATHE/DRY/DEMATT AND GROOM out all breeds and coat types.
Carry out rough clipping and basic finishing clipping and have a good knowledge and understanding of handling and restraint,
salon health and safety, customer service and salon policys, animal welfare act, duty of care etc to complete this qualification.

LEVEL 3 INTRODUCTORY DOG GROOMING You will require at least 6 weeks training/fullt-ime
grooming experience and be able to clip and style different head and body shapes using clipping, scissoring and handstripping
methods in a commercially viable time. You will also have to complete knowledge and understanding written exams on clipping
lines and breed standards. Planning work and have a good indepth knowledge of grooming techniques, equiptment etc. Smartpets
provide a study manual for all the underpinning knowledge. IF TAKEN ON ITS OWN COST £1500.00 (Students will have
to provide their own dogs for clipping if they have not trained with us) Dogs may be provided at an additional fee. IF
TAKEN ALONGSIDE LEVEL 2 ADDITIONAL TOTAL =£1750.00
LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA STYLING AND GROOMING DOGS You
will require at least 18 months full-time expereince and be able to clip, scissor and handstrip all breeds. This is assessed
by external examiners and you will be required to complete 3 dogs short legged terrier in 1hr, long legged terrier
or poodle in 1hr 15 mins and spaniels in 1hr. POA- The pet care trust arrange this external exam. |

THE ROUTE TO BECOMING A FULLY QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL GROOMER. CITY&GUILDS QUALISFICATIONS ARE THE ONLY INDUSTRY
RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL DOG GROOMERS.
LEVEL 2 DOG GROOMING ASSISTANTS CERTIFICATE-
This may be completed alongside our 15 day course as a stepping stone towards the Level 3. LEVEL 3 INTRODUCTORY
DOG GROOMING (PART1)-This may be completed aongside our 20 day course as a stepping stone towards part 2 LEVEL
3 DIPLOMA FOR PROFESSIONAL DOG STYLISTS (PART2) You will require at least 12 months full-time experience grooming
after training to complete this qualification.
Entry
Requirements Level 3 Certificate in Introductory
Dog Grooming is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Diploma (hence why the same units are in the diploma). Therefore, candidates
who have already achieved the Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming will not have to be reassessed in
the units that appear in both qualifications. Candidates can also register straight onto to the Level 3 Diploma for
Professional Dog Stylists, but they have to achieve all of the units in the qualification structure.
