About the Course:
This course is designed to introduce you to all aspects of being a Dog Grooming Assistant. It is suitbale for those entering the industry who wish to start working as a grooming assistant or for those in kennels or who work with dogs who wish to learn basic grooming techniques eg bathing, drying, dematting, ear and nail care and basic trimming skills to tidy pets.
THIS COURSE WILL NOT TEACH FULL CLIPPING AND STYLING

What will I learn?

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing. Professional Dematting and Deshedding techniques.
  • Bathe and clean dogs.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals.
  • Control and restrain animals.
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling.
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat. Hygiene clipping, basic scissoring and clipping skills.
  • Move animals between locations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment.
  • Health & safety and current animal welfare legislation
  • Basic record keeping

Entry requirements:

There are no formal entry qualifications required to start this course, however a good standard of literacy is required to read, interpret and complete written tasks. A love of dogs and physically fit as this course will involve long periods of standing and lifting of dogs.

Duration: 4 days approx 10am to 3pm daily

Attendance: Tailored to suit 1/2/3/4 days per week by arrangement

Certification: National Open College Network Level 2 and 3 Certificate Introductory Dog Grooming Certificate and Smartpets Certificate.

Optional Qualification: City & Guilds Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant Certificate, this course will require a further 2 days attendance and approx 50 hrs of home study theory powerpoints will be provided.
